30 Years • Falah Al-Hirez

Falah was initially attracted to Lighthouse as a sophomore in high school in 2003 because it offered free food and activities like basketball, volleyball, and a game room. He soon realized Lighthouse was also a welcoming and safe place where he felt accepted. He loved it there so much that he became known for recruiting friends to come too.

It wasn’t long before someone asked Falah about school and realized that he needed help with academics. Since no one at home spoke English, Falah was able to get his homework completed at Lighthouse, get caught up, and graduate. They even got him involved with Americorps.

Now, almost 17 years later, Falah is our Lighthouse Volunteer Coordinator and Facility Manager. He still gets to recruit and play basketball at Lighthouse! Hear more about Falah’s story here.
