Part-Time After School Specialist

Lighthouse is seeking a highly organized individual for a part-time After-School Specialist: The major responsibility of the part-time/on-call position is to mentor and supervise youth at the Lighthouse, a drop-in youth center.  Other duties as assigned include cleaning, special projects, and chaperoning field trips. Education: Minimum requirement of a High School diploma. Ability to work evenings, knowledge of community resources and the 40 Developmental Assets are necessary. Pay will range from $13-$15/ hr. and will be up to 30 hours a week.

General Job Description:

The major responsibility of the part-time/on-call position is to mentor and supervise youth at the Lighthouse, a drop-in youth center.  Responsibilities include 1.) Provide positive role modeling to youth by demonstrating positive attitude and behavior and by initiating activities and conversations, 2.) Provide supervision in activity areas ensuring that appropriate behaviors are reinforced/praised and inappropriate behavior is corrected 3.) Other duties as assigned include cleaning, special projects, and chaperoning field trips.

Essential Duties:

Youth Mentoring and Supervision – 95% of time

Tasks: Provide positive role modeling to youth through supportive and nurturing interactions at Lighthouse.  Interactions include but are not limited to recreational activities, tutoring, field trips, active listening, etc.  Positively reinforce and build self-esteem of young people by praising their success and demonstrating interest in them and their activities.  Also responsible for ensuring that there is adequate adult supervision in all activity areas.  Supervision includes positive interactions and enforcing Lighthouse rules.  Expected to demonstrate positive attitude and behavior by following rules, welcoming and interacting with every youth, and enthusiastic participation in activities.

Other Duties – 5% of time

Tasks: Assist with completion of nightly checklist that includes cleaning duties and securing the facility.  Track youth participation at Lighthouse by marking names on the attendance list when youth come to the facility.  Chaperone field trips to extra-curricular activities, sporting and cultural events, and assist program coordinator with program implementation when requested.
