RESTORATIVE PRACTICES COORDINATOR
Reports to: Executive Director
General Job Description:The Restorative Practices Coordinator is a grant funded position. The coordinator is responsible for:
Maintaining links with juvenile probation and Diversion,
Develop rapport with youth referred to program,
Coordinate and lead Conferences (circles) to identified youth needing direction,
Build relationships with schools, and community, and
Maintain and provide program data/statistics to Executive Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintaining links with juvenile probation and Diversion - 15% of Time
Tasks: Maintain contact with Juvenile Expediter regarding referrals, youth status and available slots. Report weekly to probation officers informing them of youth status in the program, achievements, and concerns. When necessary contact probation officers directly. Attend and provide updates for monthly Graduated Sanctions Meetings.
Coordinate and lead Conferences - 35% of Time
Tasks: Identify youth that attend Lighthouse that have caused harm either internally or to the community. Take referrals from Diversion, Probation, Schools, and community at large for those identified to have caused harm. Lead conferences (circles) and informal mediations to help the youth take a more meaningful way for the youth to take responsibility for their actions. The focus is on repairing harm to the victim.
Youth Mentoring and Supervision- 35% of Time
Tasks: Complete in-take process with youth referred by the Juvenile Expediter. Develop positive rapport with youth in program. Provide positive role modeling to youth through supportive and nurturing interactions at Lighthouse. Interactions include but are not limited to recreational activities, tutoring, field trips, active listening, etc. Positively reinforce and build self-esteem of young people by praising their success and demonstrating interest in them and their activities. Responsible for ensuring that there is adequate supervision in all activity areas. Supervision includes positive interactions and enforcing Lighthouse rules.
Build relationships with schools, and community - 5% of Time
Tasks: Establish a relationship with teachers, counselors and administrators of each of the targeted schools. Connect to community supports to address needs.
Compile Data- 10 % of Time
Tasks: Track status of youth in program on spreadsheet. Maintain relevant data including number of youth referred, demographic information, number of youth contacts, etc. Compile data quarterly for grant reports and yearly program evaluation. Conduct 6 month follow up of discharged and completed youth.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for successful fulfillment of role:
Knowledge:
Education: Minimum requirement of Associates Degree in Human Services or related field.
Computers-basic word processing, spreadsheet and Internet.
Knowledge of Juvenile Justice issues and resources.
Trained in Restorative Practices principles and procedures
Skills:
Excellent Communication Skills-written and verbal
Ability to effectively manage time
Ability to develop rapport with youth from diverse backgrounds
Good listener
Good conflict resolution and problem solving skills
Ability to work evenings
