Programs for youth

Lighthouse has five main programs: Education Program, Enrichment Program, Healthy Bodies Program, Community Involvement Program, Special Events Program.

The underlying framework for Lighthouse programming is based on the 40 Development Assets.

Activities within the Education Program have educational relevance, pertaining to "core" high school subjects. Examples of activities are:

  • Tutoring
  • College field trips/activities
  • Activities that complement school subjects; reading, writing, math, science, etc.

Enrichment Program

The Enrichment Program activities are skill building and enhance personal hobbies/interests, pertaining to "elective" high school subjects.  Examples of activities are:

  • Music
  • Specialized classes: cooking, cake decorating, guitar lessons, Hip Hop History
  • Clubs: Chess, Girls, Military
  • Art
  • Leadership
  • Camping

Healthy Bodies Program

Activities within the Healthy Bodies Program focus on the health of teen bodies and nutritionally related. Examples of activities are:

  • Food Program:
    Afternoon snack, Monday-Friday 3-4:30 p.m.
    Home cooked supper, Mon-Fri 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Fitness for Life: Yoga, The Golden Runners Running Club, Hiking Club
  • Garden

Community Involvement Program

The Community Involvement Program includes activities that involve Lighthouse youth within the community and with related community members/organizations.  Examples of activities are:

  • Volunteering/Service Learning
  • School event attendance
  • Neighborhood events
  • High school lunches

The Special Events Program activities are social gatherings and celebrations. Examples of activities are:

  • Dances
  • Special Dinners
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Non-high school athletic games
